As a school teacher, Oscar is in contact with young people on a daily basis. Establishing a sense of belonging helps to develop civic and social responsibility.
Having chaired the youth committee for a number of years he understands the challenges our youth experience. Mental health issues, depression, bullying and anxiety are on the rise amongst our youth.
Better youth support reduces youth crime and disengagement.
The current funding for essential services is not sufficient. If we cannot support our children then we are not striving for our future.
By working with local schools and youth service providers, Oscar plans to create working groups to genuinely understand and meet the needs of our young. He will campaign for more funding to essential services and the Oxygen Youth Centre which he opened as Mayor of Moreland.
