Essendon First — Politics Last.
My Priorities

Issues that matter to the District of Essendon

The Seat of Essendon is a strong, proud and connected community, but residents are rightly concerned about the pressure on Families, Roads, Schools, Health Services, Public Transport and Local Infrastructure. My priorities are practical, local and focused on the issues people raise with me every day.

Cost of Living

Helping families get ahead again

Across Essendon, Strathmore, Strathmore Heights, Essendon North, Essendon Fields, Moonee Ponds, Ascot Vale, Flemington and Travancore, families are feeling the pressure of rising mortgage repayments, increasing rents, higher grocery prices, soaring energy bills, insurance costs and the rising cost of everyday essentials.

Too many people are working harder than ever yet finding it more difficult to make ends meet. That isn't good enough.

Why it matters

  • The cost of living affects every household. It determines whether families can pay their bills, whether young people can afford to move out of home, whether Seniors can live with dignity and whether local businesses can continue to employ staff and invest in our community.
  • Government cannot control every price, but it can make decisions that ease pressure on household budgets rather than make life even more expensive.

What I will fight for

  • Practical cost-of-living relief for families and households.
  • Greater support for pensioners, carers, veterans, people living with disability and vulnerable members of our community.
  • Responsible Government spending to help reduce waste and put downward pressure on costs.
  • Reducing unnecessary taxes, fees and charges.
  • Better support for local businesses to protect jobs and keep local economies strong.
  • More affordable and accessible public transport options.
  • Greater investment in affordable housing to help first-home buyers, renters and essential workers.
  • Policies that encourage lower energy costs and improve household energy efficiency.
  • Better access to free or low-cost community services that support families doing it tough.
  • Ensuring every major Government decision considers its impact on the cost of living for Victorian families.

My commitment

I know families don't expect miracles. They simply want a Government that understands what it's like to balance a household budget, make difficult financial decisions and live within its means. I'll always fight for practical solutions that help families keep more of their hard-earned money and make life more affordable.

Community Safety

Safer communities = stronger communities

One of the most common concerns I hear from residents across the Seat of Essendon is that they no longer feel as safe as they once did. Families are worried about youth crime. Older residents tell me they don't feel comfortable walking alone at night. Local business owners are frustrated by theft, vandalism and repeat offending.

Residents continue to raise concerns about stolen vehicles, aggravated burglaries, antisocial behaviour and groups of young offenders riding stolen motorbikes, illegal motorised bikes and high-powered scooters through streets with little regard for the safety of others. Community safety is not a political issue. It is a fundamental responsibility of Government.

Why it matters

  • When people no longer feel safe, the entire community suffers — families become anxious, older residents lose confidence to leave their homes, businesses face increasing costs and children miss out on the freedom to enjoy their local parks.
  • I have enormous respect for Victoria Police, who work tirelessly to protect our community every day. However, many residents believe the justice system is not doing enough to deal with serious repeat offenders.
  • The closure of the Moonee Ponds and Flemington Police Stations to the public has left many residents questioning where they can turn when they need help. Visible policing plays an important role in preventing crime and building community confidence.

What I will fight for

  • More visible police on our streets, in shopping strips and at transport hubs.
  • Properly resourced and accessible Police services, including advocating for the reopening of the Moonee Ponds and Flemington Police Stations to the public where operationally possible.
  • Stronger community policing and greater engagement between Victoria Police and local residents.
  • Increased support for Victoria Police, frontline emergency services and crime prevention initiatives.
  • BREAK BAIL. GO TO JAIL. Serious repeat offenders who breach their bail conditions should face stronger consequences to help protect our community.
  • Stronger action to tackle youth crime, repeat offending, car thefts, aggravated burglaries, vandalism and antisocial behaviour.
  • Better lighting, CCTV and safer public spaces where appropriate.
  • Early intervention programs that help steer young people away from crime while holding repeat offenders accountable.
  • Safer shopping strips, railway stations, bus interchanges and public transport precincts.
  • Working with Victoria Police, Local Government, Schools, Businesses and Community organisations to improve safety outcomes.
  • Stronger regulation and enforcement against the dangerous use of illegal motorised bikes and high-powered scooters on our streets, shared paths and public spaces.

My commitment

People should never have to change the way they live because they don't feel safe. Every family deserves to feel safe. Every business deserves to operate without fear of crime. Every Senior Citizen deserves to walk through their neighbourhood with confidence. Every child deserves to grow up in a safe community. A safer Essendon is a stronger Essendon.

Traffic, Roads and Active Transport

No more growth without infrastructure

Traffic congestion has become one of the biggest frustrations for residents across the Seat of Essendon. Every day, thousands of people experience delays on Mount Alexander Road, Keilor Road, Bulla Road, Buckley Street, Waverley Street, Epsom Road, Racecourse Road, Maribyrnong Road, Pascoe Vale Road and many surrounding local streets.

As the community continues to grow, the roads, footpaths, cycling infrastructure and public transport network must grow with it.

Why it matters

  • Traffic congestion means less time with our families, longer journeys to work and school, increased stress, reduced productivity and greater pressure on local roads and neighbourhoods.
  • Good transport planning means creating safe streets for pedestrians, better cycling infrastructure, improving public transport and ensuring our roads meet the needs of a growing community.
  • Major developments must be supported by the infrastructure needed to accommodate additional residents — planned before development occurs, not years later.

What I will fight for

  • Better traffic management on key local roads and targeted road improvements where they are needed most.
  • Smarter planning around major developments, including the Moonee Valley Racecourse redevelopment.
  • A long-term strategy for parking and local access.
  • Improved traffic flow through better coordination of roads, intersections and traffic signals.
  • A comprehensive review of congestion, toll impacts and traffic management across Melbourne's north-west.
  • Advocate for the removal of the Albion Street toll point to help reduce congestion on local roads.
  • Advocate for a review of the current 80 km/h speed limit on the Tullamarine to determine whether it can be safely increased to 100 km/h, subject to traffic engineering and road safety assessments.
  • Infrastructure delivered before development — not after it.
  • Improved pedestrian safety through safer crossings, better lighting and traffic-calming measures where needed.
  • Greater investment in safe and connected cycling infrastructure.
  • Stronger education and enforcement to address unsafe use of e-scooters and illegal motorised bikes.
  • Improve safety around schools through better crossings, parking management and safer drop-off and pick-up zones.

My commitment

People should be spending time with their families — not sitting in traffic because of poor planning. I'll fight for practical transport solutions that improve traffic flow, make our roads safer, protect pedestrians and support better transport options for everyone.

Better Public Transport for Essendon

Reliable. Accessible. Connected.

A growing community deserves a public transport system that is reliable, safe and accessible. For too long, residents have been promised improvements to Essendon Station and better transport connections, yet many of those promises remain undelivered.

Why it matters

  • Good public transport improves quality of life. It reduces traffic congestion, supports local businesses, connects communities and gives people greater independence.
  • Commuters, students, seniors, parents with prams and people living with disability all deserve stations, trams and buses that are modern, accessible and reliable.
  • As our population continues to grow, investment in public transport must keep pace.

What I will fight for

  • Upgrades to Essendon Station, including improved accessibility and passenger facilities.
  • Extend the Route 59 tram from Airport West to Melbourne Airport, providing a direct public transport connection for residents, workers and visitors.
  • More reliable train, tram and bus services across the electorate.
  • Better accessibility for passengers, including lifts and improved station access where needed.
  • Safer, cleaner and more welcoming station precincts.
  • Better integration and connections between trains, trams and buses.
  • Increased commuter parking where appropriate to support local residents.
  • A stronger voice for investment in public transport across Melbourne's north-west.

My commitment

Reliable public transport is essential to a connected and growing community. I'll continue to advocate for better trains, trams, buses, safer stations and improved accessibility so residents can travel with confidence. Better public transport doesn't just benefit commuters — it reduces congestion, supports local businesses, connects communities and improves quality of life for everyone.

Schools and Young People

Supporting local schools — investing in our future

As a qualified Primary and Secondary Teacher with more than 30 years' experience, I understand the opportunities and challenges facing students, parents, teachers and school communities. Throughout my career, I have worked in local schools, supported thousands of young people and delivered cyber safety, anti-bullying and student wellbeing programs across our community.

Education changes lives and every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Why it matters

  • Strong schools build strong communities. Every child deserves access to a high-quality education in a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Teachers deserve the respect, resources and support they need to inspire the next generation, while parents deserve confidence that their children are receiving the best possible education.
  • Investing in education is one of the most important investments we can make in our future.

What I will fight for

  • Increased support for local kindergartens, childcare centres, primary schools and secondary schools.
  • Better support and resources for teachers, education support staff and school leaders.
  • Improved student wellbeing and school-based mental health services.
  • Greater access to Psychologists, Counsellors and early intervention programs.
  • Stronger cyber safety, anti-bullying and respectful relationships education.
  • More pathways for young people into Apprenticeships, Traineeships, TAFE, University and meaningful employment.
  • Investment in school infrastructure to ensure local schools can meet the needs of growing communities.
  • Greater collaboration between schools, families and the wider community to support every child's success.

My commitment

Having spent more than 3 decades in education, I know that every child can succeed when they are given the right opportunities, the right support and teachers who believe in them. I'll always be a strong advocate for students, teachers and families — because investing in education isn't just about today's classrooms, it's about building a stronger, more skilled and more successful community for generations to come.

Better Healthcare. Stronger Community Services

Help should be available when you need it

Access to quality healthcare should never depend on where you live or how much you earn. Yet too many local families are facing long waiting lists, rising healthcare costs, increasing pressure on ambulance services, growing demand for mental health support and overcrowded hospitals.

Our community also relies on the outstanding work of our emergency services and volunteers, including Ambulance Victoria, Fire Rescue Victoria, the CFA and the SES. They deserve the funding, equipment and resources needed to protect our community and save lives.

Why it matters

  • Every resident deserves timely access to quality healthcare and emergency services — whether you are a young family, a senior, a person living with disability or someone experiencing a mental health crisis, help should be available when you need it, not months later.
  • A healthy community depends on strong hospitals, responsive ambulance services, accessible healthcare and well-supported emergency services.

What I will fight for

  • Better access to local healthcare services, GPs and Specialist Care.
  • Reduced ambulance response times across our community.
  • Increased investment in community health and preventative healthcare programs.
  • Stronger mental health services for young people, adults and families.
  • Greater support for Seniors, Carers, people living with disability and vulnerable residents.
  • Better assistance to help families navigate the healthcare system.
  • Increased investment in hospitals, emergency departments and Ambulance Victoria.
  • Advocate for $3.5 million in funding to expand the operations and capability of the Essendon SES Unit.
  • Increased support for Fire Rescue Victoria, the CFA and other frontline emergency services.
  • Recognition and support for the volunteers who generously give their time to keep our community safe.

My commitment

Quality healthcare is not a privilege — it is a fundamental right. I'll always advocate for better hospitals, faster ambulance response times, improved mental health services and stronger support for our emergency services and volunteers. A healthier community is a stronger community and I'll always fight to ensure no one is left behind.

Supporting Local Business and Local Jobs

Strong local businesses. Strong local communities.

Local businesses are the backbone of our community. They create jobs, support local families, sponsor our sporting clubs, contribute to community events and keep our shopping strips vibrant and welcoming.

Having worked in business for most of my career and alongside hundreds of local businesses, I understand the challenges facing business owners. I am proudly pro-business because when local businesses succeed, our entire community benefits.

Why it matters

  • Small businesses are doing it tough. Rising operating costs, increasing insurance premiums, staff shortages, excessive red tape, parking pressures, crime and the cost of doing business are placing enormous pressure on local traders.
  • We need Governments that work with business, not against it. Supporting local businesses means supporting local jobs, strengthening our economy and ensuring our shopping strips continue to thrive.

What I will fight for

  • Stronger support for local traders and family-owned businesses.
  • Cutting unnecessary red tape and reducing the regulatory burden on small business.
  • Better parking, access and wayfinding around local shopping precincts.
  • Safer shopping strips through improved lighting, CCTV where appropriate and a stronger police presence.
  • More support for Apprenticeships, Traineeships and local employment opportunities.
  • Practical policies that encourage business investment, innovation and growth.
  • Greater support for start-up businesses, entrepreneurs and local manufacturers.
  • Advocacy for lower business costs where possible, including reducing unnecessary government fees and charges.
  • Improved streetscapes that encourage people to shop locally.
  • Stronger partnerships between government, business associations and traders to revitalise local shopping precincts.
  • Better transport and freight access to support local commerce.
  • Encouraging residents to shop local — every dollar spent locally helps create jobs and strengthens our community.

My commitment

I've spent much of my career working in business and alongside local business owners. I understand the risks they take, the long hours they work and the challenges they face every day. When local businesses succeed, local families succeed, and our entire community prospers.

Responsible Growth

Sensible development. Proper infrastructure.

The Seat of Essendon is changing rapidly. Major developments, including the Moonee Valley Racecourse redevelopment, will bring thousands of new residents into our community. Growth is inevitable, but it must be planned responsibly and supported by the infrastructure that communities need.

Too often, Governments approve major developments first and only begin addressing the consequences afterwards. Planning should be proactive, not reactive. Plan first. Build second. Deliver the infrastructure our community needs before asking residents to carry the burden of poor planning.

Why it matters

  • Residents are asking: Where will all the cars go? Can our roads cope with continued growth? Are there enough schools for a growing population?
  • Will we have enough parks, playgrounds and open space? Can public transport cope with increased demand?
  • Will infrastructure be delivered before development — not years later? How will traffic congestion on our major roads be reduced?

What I will fight for

  • Infrastructure delivered before major developments are approved.
  • Better planning around significant projects, including the Moonee Valley Racecourse redevelopment.
  • Practical solutions to reduce congestion on our local roads.
  • Better public transport, parking and active transport connections.
  • Protection of the character and liveability of our local neighbourhoods.
  • More parks, open space and community facilities for growing communities.
  • Genuine consultation with residents before major planning decisions are made.
  • Fair outcomes for existing communities affected by growth and development.

My commitment

Growth is inevitable — but poor planning isn't. I'll always support sensible development that provides more housing opportunities, but I will never support growth that comes at the expense of our community's liveability, character or quality of life. A growing community deserves proper planning, not bigger problems.

Affordable Housing

Everyone deserves to live close to family, work, school and community

Owning or renting a home has become increasingly difficult for many Victorians. Young people are struggling to buy their first home, families are facing rising rents and mortgage repayments, and many older residents worry about whether they can afford to remain in the communities they have called home for decades.

I believe we can increase the supply of affordable housing while protecting the liveability and character of our neighbourhoods. Housing policy should strengthen communities, not divide them.

Why it matters

  • More housing is needed, but growth must be planned responsibly and supported by the roads, schools, public transport, parks, healthcare services and community facilities that people rely on every day.
  • When people are forced to relocate long distances, it can create unnecessary hardship and weaken the community connections that are so important.

What I will fight for

  • More affordable housing opportunities for first home buyers, families, essential workers and Seniors.
  • Greater investment in social and affordable housing in the Seat of Essendon.
  • Planning that delivers housing alongside roads, schools, public transport, parks and community facilities.
  • Better support for people displaced by redevelopment, helping them remain connected to their families, employment, education and local support services wherever possible.
  • Development that respects the character, liveability and long-term future of our local neighbourhoods.
  • A balanced approach that supports both housing affordability and strong, well-planned communities.

My commitment

I support affordable housing, responsible growth and stronger communities. But I do not support growth without the infrastructure needed to support it. Good communities don't happen by accident — they are built through good planning, sensible investment and putting people first.

Sport, Recreation, Parks and Community Life

Healthy communities need healthy spaces

Parks, sporting clubs, recreation facilities, community groups and open spaces are at the heart of every great community. Sport has played an important role throughout my life, and for more than 18 years I proudly served as Council's representative for Sport and Recreation, working closely with local sporting clubs, volunteers and community organisations.

My support extends beyond sport — I strongly believe in investing in dance, music, theatre, the performing arts, cultural organisations and community events.

Why it matters

  • Strong sporting clubs and quality open spaces create stronger communities. They provide young people with positive opportunities, encourage healthy and active lifestyles, support mental wellbeing and bring families together.
  • As our community continues to grow, we must ensure that parks, sporting facilities and recreational spaces grow with it.

What I will fight for

  • Greater investment in local sporting clubs, parks, playgrounds and community open space.
  • Funding to help Essendon Royals secure a new home ground.
  • Support for Strathmore Sports Club (Strathmore Split) to secure funding for a two-way road entrance, improving safety and access.
  • Infrastructure funding for Avondale Football Club to support its continued growth.
  • Funding for urgent drainage works and a new pavilion at Doutta Stars Football Club.
  • Always accessible and responsive to Aberfeldie Football Club whenever support is needed.
  • Working with Strathmore Football Club to ensure facilities keep pace with one of the fastest-growing clubs in the region.
  • Greater support for Maribyrnong Park Football Club and its growing sporting community.
  • Working collaboratively with the Essendon Bowling Club, Essendon Cricket Club and other key stakeholders on the long-term future, management and community use of Windy Hill.
  • Continued investment in facilities for football, soccer, cricket, baseball, tennis, bowls, athletics and all community sports.
  • Improved facilities for junior sport, women and girls, volunteers and people living with disability.
  • Protecting parks, sporting facilities and open spaces as our community continues to grow.

My commitment

Community sport is about far more than winning games. It brings families together, creates lifelong friendships, improves physical and mental health, and teaches values that stay with us for life. I'll always be a strong voice for local sport because investing in our clubs is investing in our community.

Government Accountability

Restoring trust in Government

Trust is earned through honesty, integrity and action. People deserve a Government that listens, spends taxpayer money wisely and always puts the interests of the community ahead of politics.

As an Independent, my loyalty will never be to a political party. My loyalty will always be to the people of Essendon. I don't believe people have lost faith in democracy. I believe they've lost faith in Politicians. My job is to earn that trust back — 1 conversation, 1 decision and 1 community at a time.

Why it matters

  • Every dollar a Government spends belongs to the taxpayer. Communities deserve transparent decision-making, responsible financial management and representatives prepared to ask the tough questions.
  • Government should focus on delivering quality services, building essential infrastructure and improving people's lives — not political point-scoring.

What I will fight for

  • Greater transparency and accountability across Government.
  • Responsible financial management and value for taxpayer money.
  • Honest, ethical and accessible representation.
  • Stronger scrutiny of government decisions and spending.
  • Community-first decision-making that puts local people before party politics.
  • An Independent voice that votes in the best interests of Essendon — not according to a party line.
  • Regular communication with residents and genuine consultation on important local issues.
  • Standing up for our community by asking the tough questions and demanding answers.
  • Respectful, practical leadership that focuses on solutions rather than political games.
  • Working every day to earn the trust of the people I represent — never taking their support for granted.

My commitment

If elected, I will always be accessible, accountable and approachable. I won't disappear between elections. I will listen. I will work hard. I will be visible throughout our community. I will always put the people of the Seat of Essendon first. Because public office is a privilege — not an entitlement — and every day I will work to earn your trust.
